How to Fix Disposable Vape Pens

Is your disposable vape not working? Is it not spitting any vapor or if it does, it tastes burnt or hits weak? Vape pens are self-contained devices built for convenience but products are just products. They’re bound to encounter issues, maybe later or even if they’re new.

Whatever vape pen problems you’re encountering now, we may have just the right solution for you. In this article, we’re laying down quick fixes on some of the most common vape pen issues users experience with vape pens.

What Is A Disposable Vape Pen?

Disposable vape pens are non-refillable single-use vaping devices used to draw out vapor from a heated e-juice that can contain anything from nicotine to cannabis-derived cannabinoids like Delta 8. As a disposable, they’re discarded right after the distillate or e-juice runs out.

People love disposable pens because they’re used straight out of the box without needing any kind of tinkering with complicated buttons. Plus, they are available in different designs and functions. Some could have charging ports, airflow adjustability, breath-activated, or require you to push a button to activate.

Disposable vape pens are designed to be small, almost pen-like, or USB-shaped in size.

What Are The Parts Of A Disposable Vape Pen?

Ejuice Reservoir

The e-juice reservoir contains the e-juice. For most disposable vape pen designs, reservoirs cannot be removed nor refilled.

Coil

The coil, powered by electrical power, heats up the e-juice and turns it into vapor. Once the e-juice comes into contact with the heated coil, it turns into vapor.

Battery

The battery is the source of the vape pen’s electrical power. The battery is activated either by the drawing action of breath or through the push of a button. A LED indicator is attached to the disposable vape pen’s design to let the user monitor the status of the battery.

Airflow Holes

The airflow hole is the path to which the vapor travels to get to your mouth. Without airflow holes, no vapor will come out even if the device is correctly firing.

Mouthpiece

The mouthpiece is where you put your lips around to help you correctly inhale vapor from the device. Mouthpieces can be narrow or roomy.

How To Fix Disposable Vape Pens: Common Faults And Their Fixes

Disposable Vape Not Hitting

Have you tried drawing out vapor from your vape pen but no vapor comes out? Vape not hitting is the most common problem some vapers will experience. Below are the potential reasons:

  • Out of E-Liquid

If you have been using the device for some time, maybe it simply ran out of juice.

Do this! Some vape pens have windows to them showing the amount of e-juice – check them, and if they’re empty, discard the device.

It’s unlikely for newly purchased vape pens to run out of e-juice immediately. If your device is new, look for other causes.

  • Dead Battery

If your vape pen has an indicator light on it, it’s easier to determine the status of your device’s battery.

Do this! If it’s blinking, in the color red, or no color at all when you inhale, the battery is low or is about to die. It’s time for a new device.

If your device is rechargeable, plug it into a charger. Observe if the LED indicator lights up when hooked to a charger. If it doesn’t light up, there might be a mechanical defect inside.

  • Airflow Sensor Isn’t Sensitive

Disposable vape pens use an airflow sensor that detects your action of drawing out air. Sometimes, these sensors aren’t sensitive enough to detect your puffing. At times, the sensors’ performance can be hampered by the condensation inside the vape pen.

Do this! Cover one of the intake vents with your finger while puffing. By doing this, you’re putting an airflow pressure inside, helping the sensor activate.

Air intake vents are usually located at the bottom of the device. Check if they have a sticker on them. Strip them off the stickers.

  • Disposable Vape Has Never Worked Even While It’s New

This might be a case of factory error.

Do this! Vape pens have warranties. Take them back to the producer for repair, request a refund, or request a new unit.

If the brand doesn’t have any of the perks above, a pair of tweezers might just do the trick.

Using the tweezers, gently take the mouthpiece off of the device. Observe the cotton pad with a hole in the middle. If the cotton is bunched up, reposition it in a way where the cotton’s middle hole aligns with the rubber stopper’s hole underneath.

The scenario might be that the rubber stopper has no hole in it or isn’t positioned well. If that’s the case, remove the rubber stopper and attempt to punch a hole in the middle using a toothpick. If the rubber stopper has a hole in it, reposition the hole so it directly aligns with the airflow pathway.

Reassemble and test your theory.

Disposable Vape Weak Hits

If a disposable vape pen isn’t giving you the strength of effects you wanted, the e-juice potency might be too low for you. But if you have used the same device before and have never disappointed you, these tips might help.

  • Block the Airflow Vent

Do this! Cover one of the intake vents with your finger while puffing. By doing this, you’re making the vapor warmer and more intense.

  • Break Air Bubbles

Pod-based vapes can have bubbles forming around their pod wicks.

Do this! Break the bubbles by gently tapping the device. Wait a few seconds and give it a try.

  • Give Your Vape A Moment

Give the e-juice to get reabsorbed in the cotton near the atomizer coil. This will not be possible if you’re vaping at a fast pace.

Do this! Decrease your vaping pace.

Disposable Vape Burned Flavor

Are you tasting burnt flavor after drawing out vapor? You might be burning the wick inside because there is not enough time to let the wick reabsorb the e-juice. Another probable scenario is, the e-juice is about to run out.

Do this! This is a sign that you should slow down your vaping pace.

Disposable Vape Gurgling or Leaking

When you’re drawing air out too hard, you might notice, sometimes, excess e-liquid leaking out of the air intake vent. If you’re sucking too much, excess juice from the atomizer coil will go up to the device’s mouthpiece.

Do this! Puff gently to keep the e-juice in place.

If your device is pod-based, avoid squeezing the pod too much.

Preventive Tips For Maintaining The Quality Of Disposable Pens

  • Take shorter puffs

This doesn’t necessarily uphold the quality of the vape but instead, lengthens it.

  • Try not to chain vape

Always give several seconds before your next draw. This gives enough time for your vape pen to cool down between puffs and for the e-juice to get reabsorbed.

  • Store away from direct sunlight

Storing your vape pen to direct sunlight compromises the quality of the e-juice.

  • Do not store your vape pen in extremely cold environments like refrigerators

Aside from the possible formation of moisture inside, batteries drain faster in very low temperatures.

While it’s uncommon for simple devices like disposable vapes to develop issues, it’s not impossible for yours to encounter one. If it’s a clear factory error, you may request a replacement or a refund. Otherwise, your best bet is to work your way through the given scenarios we’ve laid down above.
