What Are THC Isomers?

THC can actually describe a variety of different compounds you may be familiar with. Like CBD and other cannabinoids, all of this “stuff” comes from Cannabis sativa, or the hemp plant. This begs the question, what are THC isomers?

What is THC?

When you hear “THC,” this typically refers to delta 9 THC, or delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol. Delta 9 THC is actually the result of another cannabinoid breaking down — the “Mother of All Cannabinoids, to be exact — CBG. Classic THC is also known for being psychoactive as well as offering some unique health benefits.

You can also enjoy THC in a variety of different products, depending on your preference and needs. Unfortunately, however, it is not yet legal everywhere for medical and recreational use. But, luckily, if you’re not finding relief from CBD, you may find a winner with a THC isomer that’s rising in prominence. We’ll discuss more of this below.

OK, so what are THC isomers?

THC isomers are THC. They have the same chemical formula but a different atomic structure. Because of these subtle differences, they offer different reactions — both from a science and production perspective as well as how they affect users.

The biggest one you should pay attention to, particularly because it’s federally legal, is delta 8 THC. According to the World Health Organization, there are five other prominent isomers of THC in addition to delta 8.

When it comes to comparing delta 9 THC and delta 8 THC, the names sort of say it all. Delta 8 is incredibly similar to delta 9 in a lot of ways. However, how delta 8 makes you feel as well as how easy it is to access make it quite different (for now) and exciting.
